Eparchial Catechist Certification Program
The purpose of the Eparchial Catechist Certificate
Program is to establish minimum standards for a theological,
spiritual and catechetical background. Anyone endeavouring
to share their faith with adults, children and youth in the
catechetical ministry of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon
is encouraged to complete the various levels of certifications.
The program utilized the ECDD Catechist Formation
books and NCCL's Echoes of Faith video assisted catechist
formation methodology tapes. The program also incorporates
the on-going faith formation of the catechist through prayer,
retreats, renewal programs. Attending all the catechist
workshops sponsored by the Eparchy is an assumed requirement
for all levels of certification.
This program, recoginizing the importance of catechetical
leadership, establishes standards for those in administration
as well as those teaching.
Basic Catechist Certificate
- Basic Eastern Catholic Tradition provides an overview of
Eastern Catholic Tradition and Practice. Courses: Streams
of Living Water and Life and Worship.
- Catechetical Methods offers the practical ways and means
to creatively pass on the faith to others. Course:
"Introduction to the Learner".
- Faith Formation provides a prayerful experience to develop
one's own personal relationship with God. We teach what
we are. Courses: "Discerning Your Call"
and "Getting Started as a Catechist".
Intermediate Catechist Certificate
- Eastern Catholic Tradition. Courses: "Eyes
of Faith" and "Shown to be Holy".
- Catechetical Methods. Courses: Methods for appropriate
Grade Level.
- Faith Formation. Course: "Roles of the
Catechist".
Advanced Catechist Certificate
- Eastern Catholic Tradition. Courses: "The
Old Testament" and "To the Ends of
the Earth"
- Catechetical Methods. Course: "Forming
a People 1 & 2".
- Faith Formation. Course: "The Person of the
Catechist.
- Teaching Experience: 3 years.
Lay Formation Catechist Certificate
- Successful completion of the Eparchial Lay Formation Program.
- Completion of all ECDD Courses.
- Teaching Experience: 1 year.
Master Catechist Certificate
- Academic Degree in Theology (or equivalent)
- Completion of all ECDD Courses.
- Teaching Experience: 5 years.
